Ferry Travel in Scotland on BBC Radio Scotland

Have we loaded the car for the ferry? Yip.

We first took our wee man on a ferry, aged seven months old, when he set sail to Ireland with StenaLine. He didn’t ride in the kayak all the way. But look at all the stuff we could fit in our car – yip, pampers rammed into the boot.

Then, with the joyous arrival of a wee brother we took both our babies, aged 19 months and 3 months old, over to Ullapool to catch the CalMac ferry to Stornoway for a week exploring the beaches of Harris and Lewis. We’ve sailed with P&O to Ireland, with Western Ferries over to Dunoon on the Cowal Peninsula and most recently we visited Orkney with NorthLink.

My point is that to see some of the best of Scotland (and Ireland), travelling by ferry is often a great way, or the only way, to get there. Travelling anywhere with kids is its own art form (ahem) so on BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘Out for the Weekend’ show we discussed everything from tips, to having your car hidden, whilst at sea.

This was great – you sound brilliant on the radio. You’ve been to so many places and you make it sound v easy (maybe you’re just very organised!)

I used to travel by ferry a lot in Scotland as a kid. I’m not sure I remember much of it now, but I’m told I loved it at the time! x
