Aviemore Lodges – Contemporary Self Catering in the Cairngorms

Contemporary Self-Catering in Aviemore – People are regularly seeking Aviemore lodges, holiday homes and cabins, and it can be hard to find somewhere quality, especially during busy periods. So I’m sharing this sharp and smart 3-bedroom property that’s new on the holiday scene in the Cairngorms. I know the owners, they’re parents at my kids school, they’re lovely, and this is a new project for them, so reserve it before everyone else knows about it.

The Accommodation – Aviemore Lodges & Self Catering

Monopoly Concentration… 🙂

First off, the Woodside Retreat is so snug and cosy, it even has underfloor heating right across the ground floor – exactly what you need after Aviemore adventures. It feels shiny and new because everything is fresh and new in this property.

In terms of style, it’s immaculate, contemporary and it feels like a real home. I’d understand if many people would love to live here permanently.

When it comes to the accommodation, Woodside offers three modern bedrooms (two double, one twin), a dining kitchen (with breakfast bar) that is notably well furnished, and a very spacious living area with expansive dining table and several couches. The side cabinet contains a host of board games, and my kids even found a box of lego to keep them amused. A downstairs washroom and upstairs bath/shower room complete the picture.

Regarding outdoor sports, we found the outdoor shed useful for bike/ski storage, and the hose and brushes came in handy for cleaning muddy tyres and boots. In summer months enjoy the garden, with barbecue equipment at the ready.

Prices & Booking

Woodside Retreat

Woodside is reasonably priced when you compare it with other similar properties. It’s obviously a bargain when compared to hotel stays, especially when you think of budgeting for food and drink. Woodside ideally sleeps a maximum of six across the 3-bedrooms. It’s a 3-night minimum stay and availability, and prices can be viewed here.

Location – Aviemore Lodges & Self Catering

Woodside is situated in a quiet cul de sac, so it’s a 15-20 minute walk into town depending which end of the high street you’re seeking. Alternatively take the Orbital Path that starts right next to the house. The Orbital Path is a roughly circular route around Aviemore. We found the signage unclear at times and had to follow our noses, but, from Woodside, simply cross the cul de sac onto the path, then turn right uphill and you’ll come to a sign-posted fork in the road – turn left at the fork to head towards town.

If you cycle you’ll be on the high street within minutes. For more of an exploration turn right at the fork and cycle a loop into town – we got lost but enjoyed getting active nonetheless, rewarding ourselves with a hot chocolate in a local café at the end of the ride.

Things to See and Do

So many Scots2Travel readers know and love Aviemore already, as it’s great for all ages, especially families. I call it the ‘Outdoor Playground of the North’ as it offers skiing, epic outdoor play areas, animals (from polar bears to reindeer), steam engine rides and more. See below for a full list of Aviemore activities.

As I mentioned, I know the couple who own Woodside Retreat, and this property is their new pride and joy. Not many people know about it yet, but that will change. I hope it allows you to make the most of Aviemore.
