Things to do on Stock Island, Florida Keys
Stock Island seems to be an extension of Key West, rightly or wrongly. For example the Key West Golf Course is actually on Stock Island, as is the Key West Botanic Garden. You can easily spend a day here, and Stock Island is a regular departure points for fishing trips and other excursions.
Key West Botanic Garden – Things to do on Stock Island
Key West Botanic Garden was a calming outing offering plenty of shade, following the boardwalk trails. We saw butterflies, chrysalises, lizards and iguanas. We also found and took home golf balls from next door’s golf course 🙂 [Adults $15, children free – check latest prices here.]
Stock Island Restaurants
Not only are the restaurants on Stock Island very good, but food prices seemed slightly lower here than in downtown Key West. Overall, dining in Stock Island feels a bit more personal, no queues, and cheaper prices. If you’re staying in a resort hotel in the east of Key West, Stock Island may be much closer than the downtown restaurants.
El Sibboney

Make it Cuban at El Sibboney. There’s also a branch in downtown Key West and Marathon, but we headed to the Stock Island property for meat and seafood served with plantains, yuca and yuca frita.
Hog Fish
Hogfish started out with one signature dish, its fresh hogfish sandwich – the rest, as they say, is history. Popular with locals and visitors alike, drop by this waterside spot for an informal evening out.

Hurricane Hole & Excursions

Hurricane Hole is so-named because boats can dock here to shelter from hurricanes. Situated on the water’s edge, this enterprise is more under the radar than Hogfish, but equally delicious. There is aqua-lodge/boathouse accommodation here, as well as boat rental and fishing excursions setting off on adventures.
Eat Key Lime Pie

This isn’t just a Key West activity, the restaurants here all serve Key Lime Pie. We tried and loved the slice at Hogfish – no meringue but great flavours, not too sweet, and a nice chilled temperature.
Play Golf on Stock Island
The Key West Golf Course is situated here. It’s a Rees Jones Championship 18-hole lay out. Guests and single players welcome. Do you dare take on the ‘Mangrove Hole’? Discover more here.
Where to Stay

We booked a resort hotel on the eastern tip of Key West (just over the bridge from Stock Island) for some chill out and downtime. There was SO much for the kids to do.
Alongside the heated swimming pools expect table football, mini golf, table table, ladder toss, cornhole, giant chess, giant jenga, alongside an indoor pool table and shuffleboard. The breakfasts are amazing, so be sure to include them. A free shuttle transports guests downtown, and it’s super handy for nipping over to Stock Island.
