Paris Travel Trips & Hacks – When I last visited Paris I was so smug with a few cheeky hacks I knew, and I got caught out on a few things I clearly didn’t know! So here are some simple hacks I’d recommend so you can make the most of your time in the French capital. *Contains affiliate links
Walk Everywhere or Buy a Carnet – Paris Travel Trips & Hacks
Firstly, Paris is a surprisingly compact city so you’ll probably walk between locations more often than you expect to, especially in fine weather. Don’t get stung for a day pass for the metro (like I did), unless you plan to travel by tube absolutely loads. Instead opt for a carnet. Last time I looked, a single ticket was €1.90, and a carnet of ten tickets was €16.90 that can be used among friends and over a few days because they don’t have an expiry date. Bargain. To See the Eiffel Tower visit Tour Montparnasse
I totally get that when you’re in Paris you want to see the Eiffel Tower, but it’s hard to see it if you’re too close to it. A great vantage point is Tour Montparnasse. This 210-metre office skyscraper isn’t the bonniest in itself, but the rooftop viewing platform provides fantastic views of, not only the Eiffel Tower, but sweeping vistas over Paris. It also houses a champagne bar, but check the opening hours – last time I looked they wereMay 1st to August 31st: 12.00-11.00p.m, then from September 1st to September 30th: 12.00-8.00p.m. Have a fab time.
I made a day of it. I found a lush vegetarian eaterie nearby called Cafe Boheme, and then explored the Luxembourg Gardens as I headed back into town.
Engaging Art – Paris Travel Trips & Hacks
Paris is known for galleries such as the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay, but art in galleries isn’t for everyone. I love art being brought to life, and I thoroughly recommend L’Atelier des Lumières experience whereby art is projected all around you, with a soundtrack enveloping you in the artworks. It’s immersive, you can wander around different spaces, and the art is displayed in its entirety or with close-ups of faces or details. It’s emotional and it works for children, friends, or solo travellers too. And it’s SUPER romantic for couples. Such a fantastical and absorbing experience. Totally recommend it.
Combine Shopping and Sightseeing – Paris Travelling Hacks & Tips
Many people flock to Paris to shop. If you wish to combine shopping with sight seeing then drop by the Galeries Lafayette. The beautiful shopping centre originally dates back to the 19th century and boasts a stunning glass coupole, rising to a height of 43 meters. We’re talking Art Nouveau steel and glass, plus the coupole used to hold a weekly fashion show at 3pm every Friday on its 4th floor. The Galeries also house Armani, Balenciaga, Chanel, Christian Dior, Chloé, Givenchy, Isabel Marant and Louis Vuitton as well as several more affordable labels to peruse.
