Mid Auchengowan Glamping near Glasgow – The Mid Auchengowan glamping dome shines like a futuristic spaceship that’s just landed in the Renfrewshire countryside. But, inside, discover immaculate family glamping in a contemporary style.
Glamping Dome Interiors
The dome is a spotless, modern set up in an open plan layout. A double bed for children is partitioned off from the rest of the dome giving a sense of separation and privacy. The tots’ room also has shelving full of books and games. The ‘master bedroom’ area is stunning, with sweeping views over the farmland and down to Castle Semple Loch. There are also two armchairs and side table, a television (with Netflix/YouTube etc.) a dining table with four chairs, two bean bags (for indoor or outdoor use) and a furnished kitchen area.
An ensuite shower room with piping hot water and toilet are the final luxurious touches. This dome is definitely on the glam side of glamping.
Glamping Dome Exteriors – Glamping Near Glasgow
Outside the dome we found sun chairs, a picnic table for all the family, plus a bar-b-q and firepit. On the first night we used the kitchen to make traditional mince and tatties, while on the second evening it was bar-b-q burgers and toasted marshmallows under the stars. The sunsets here are quite remarkable too.

With contactless check-in, open the key safe and you’re in. Park on the farm track, and use the wagon to pull your luggage to the front door.
Vibe
Honestly, the kids couldn’t wait to get inside the dome as it’s such an exciting and unusual destination. The dome is a fab combination of adventure and luxury. Ultimately, glamping is a v comfortable form of camping so the dome does get cold by night, and hot in direct sunlight. Heaters are provided but you may still require extra layers, as you would camping. We visited during a heatwave, and spent most of the days outdoors, chilling in the dome after the sun set. The owner, Sara, has finished the dome to a high spec so it’s wonderfully comfortable.

Castle Semple Loch & Bike Trails
The dome is in a fab location, with so much to do in every direction. On the doorstep is Castle Semple Loch, which is lovely to visit to see the swans and ducks, walk along the water’s edge and perhaps buy an ice cream or snack at the visitor centre. Watersports are also v popular here, bring your own gear or classes are available too.
We brought our bikes and cycled the fab bike paths linking up the loch with nearby towns and villages. We peddled to the cute village of Kilbrachan, where we stopped for brunch, before retracing our steps. En route you see the Collegiate Church, a Flintstone style bike sculpture and a temple.
Ayr & Alloway
If you wish to hit the beach, then the extensive Ayr Esplanade and sandy beach is just over 30 miles away.
We also followed in the footsteps of Robert Burns, visiting Alloway (50 mins drive). The kids like the Tam o’ Shanter story, so we crossed the spooky bridge Brig o’ Doon and visited the Auld Kirk. Mr Husband’s highlight was the Robert Burns Monument and Gardens. The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum also worked really well for kids, with ample hands on games and activities. My boys’ favourite was a game called Cut the Haggis, and they enjoyed making up a scary ghost story to frighten Tam on his walk home. The playground here is also pretty cool, with a Tam o’Shanter theme. A cauldron for a roundabout, Brig o Doon for a slide, and a flying fox that represents Tam being chased by witches – wonderfully imaginative.
From the museum follow the Poet’s Path that features curious sculptures along the way, until you reach Burns Cottage, where Rabbie was born. The cottage is split into three parts, revealing how the family lived and worked. Highlights included Burns’ school report, and the nightdresses representing Burns and his siblings’ dates of birth – v cute. Outside, the willow sculptures were eye-catching, and we walked down to a small pond in the sunshine. [The bridge, kirk, poets path are free. Other key attractions you could consider include Culzean Castle and Country Park (also National Trust for Scotland, an hour away and epic for kids), Loch Lomond and Drumfries House.
