Apex City of Glasgow Review
Apex City of Glasgow Review – We’re fans of the Apex Dundee City Quay with its pool and Yu Spa so we recently gave their Glasgow property a try. It’s equally contemporary and smart, reasonably priced and ideal for a chic city break, so I’ll sum it up quickly.
Location – Apex Glasgow
Fantastic for all ages, the Glasgow Apex is right in the heart of the city on Bath Street. We could nip out to so many different restaurants, cafes and attractions within a few minutes. You’re situated in the centre of a buzzing city, close to two major railway stations (Central & Queen Street), the bus station and tube too (Charing Cross is probably the closest stop).

What attracts people to the Apex brand is the quality guests receive for the price. Yes, you’ll find cheaper hotels, yes you’ll find more luxurious/expensive hotels but, for the pricepoint, the Apex delivers. See what I mean by checking the prices here.
Rooms – Apex Glasgow
Our room offered the smart, modern understated elegance I expected from the Apex brand. Our family room fitted two double beds – see the images above to get a sense of space and decor. The kids loved the FREE Apex duck and added it to their small collection. Sleek shower rooms with rather lovely Antipodes toiletries went down well too.
Instead of an endless stream of bottles of water in rooms, guests are provided with one reusable glass water jug that you’re invited to fill with still or sparkling water at water stations situated on every second floor. Help the planet with every sip!
Food & Drink at the Apex Glasgow
The Apex doesn’t serve evening meals or lunches, which, when you think about it, makes sense. There are SO many eateries nearby that guests are already spoiled for choice, and it would be really hard for a hotel to compete. We took the opportunity to dine at a local Italian, I’d recommend La Taverna for traditional pizza and pasta. Sarti is also nearby. We grabbed crepes and cocktails in Doner Haus. And on our second night booked a table at the inimitable establishment that is The Buttery.
Breakfast
It’s very easy to book ‘Room Only’ at the Apex and dine out at the various brunchy cafes nearby but the Apex does do a good breakfast. It’s served till 10am so it’s possible to sleep in a bit too.
I assumed breakfast would be a buffet affair but it’s better than that! The continental options are help yourself, but the cooked options were notably good. Mr Husband tucked into The Harbourmaster’s Breakfast of grilled Loch Fyne smoked kipper with melted butter. Mr Child made a beeline for the pancake stacks with crispy bacon and maple syrup. Junior indulged in the kids size ‘Great British Breakfast’, which was pretty generous. And I opted for a freshly cooked omelette with spinach and cheese filling. A really good start to the day.
Bar
The Apex has a bar where a small menu of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are sold. Free coffee and tea is also available. I’d rather head out to one of Glasgow’s buzzing or sophisticated bars, but it’s handy that you can have a drink onsite if you fancy it.

Parking & Driving
Many Glasgow city hotels now fall within Glasgow’s LEZ (Low Emission Zone). This means drivers will automatically receive a fine if their car is non-compliant, but lots of petrol cars are surprisingly compliant as well as electric ones. Turns out both our cars get a green light. Check your vehicle here.
The hotel’s v easy to reach via public transport but if you can drive then parking is offered nearby with a 40% discount rate at Q Park on Sauchiehall Street. Contact the hotel reception to find out more before you travel.
Vibe
The Apex works for most ages and groups. We visited as a family and loved it. I’m returning with some girlfriends for a cocktail-fuelled weekend soon, so it’s a welcoming adaptable space and makes a solid base for making the most of Glasgow. A relaxed check out of 11.00am made this a leisurely stay. Happy travels.
